[A New York minute for you…]
“McNeal” starring Robert Downey Jr. was much more than a Broadway performance. After watching this riveting drama with my friend Ginger Conlon at the epic Lincoln Center, many questions swirled around my head…such as:
🛜 Where does AI generated content end, and original thought begin?
🛜 What role does generative AI play in the arts?
🛜 How will we address plagiarism as we see traditional publishing structures collapse?
🛜 What publishing monetization models will exist in 2-4 years?
Watching this performance with my cool friend Ginger made this a special evening.
She’s a seasoned editor, content creator, and marketing leader. And Ginger understands first hand the AI-fueled leadership shifts underway in our organizations.
Here’s my mini review of “McNeal…”
Director Ayad Akhtar built a powerful production, writing and set team. The actors truly impressed!
Yet the play teeters on overly ambitious. The script introduced layers of themes: AI-induced plagiarism, betrayal, unspeakable family secrets, suicide, and addiction. Coupled with periodic stage strobe light flashes, I experienced brain whiplash.
Phew! I needed a chatbot to help me book a spa day afterwards.
Why care about this play?
The AI revolution has forever changed how we view creative endeavors. How we deliver creative ideas to our customers. And how we relate to other creators.
Still sitting on the sidelines with your generative AI policy and strategy? If so, your business might just be headed for “limited engagement” status, too.

This post was completely written by me — a human. I did not use generative AI.
